Art is presented in many forms,
the best sharing many similarities; balance, shape, color,
texture, and originality. The principals of fine art are
always present when designing and creating a work of
art.
The jewelry we make was
developed by utilizing our skills as an artist and
engineer/model builder. Combining conventional jewelry
techniques with methods and materials from the hi-tech world,
using
custom blended epoxy and carefully selected colorants, which
become transparent and luminous when painted onto the
reflective silver surface, results in jewelry we like
to think of as art.
Richard interprets Reta's
2-dimensional design drawings and makes them into
3-dimensional silver shapes, to which Reta adds the art work
using sometimes subtile, often brilliant colors. This
ability to use color freely without the constraint posed by
fused glass or enamel, adds to the originality of the
pieces. The work is then finished by Richard, with
either polished or brushed
surfaces.
Reta got her training at Rhode
Island School of Design as a fine art painter/illustrator and
uses natural shapes, color and movement to express her
art. Richard is a mechanical engineer with experience in
design and manufacture of electro-mechanical equipment.
He uses this knowledge along with his model making experience
to do all the technical aspects of the
work.
The Masters now make their home
in Vermont with a studio that looks out over Lake
Champlain and Mount Mansfield. They feel very
fortunate to be able to live and work making art together in
this beautiful setting.
